¶ Introduction
With the introduction of the MWS NIMC MobileID application suite, it is now lawful for any person who has been issued a National Identification Number (NIN) to verify the identity of another person who has also been issued a NIN.
¶ Conditions
There are of course conditions for this, and in order to establish and maintain Data Privacy considerations, each and every verification attempt made (successful or not), is logged in 3 distinct databases for added redundancy and security.
The verification record is available as a notification to the ID Holder at all times.
At any time, where a person may feel they had no knowledge of the verification, they may petition the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) for an investigation.
¶ Audit Trail
With the MWS, the NIMC will always know who verified the identity of another and be in a position to say whom and when this was done.
Where appropriate, necessary remedial action may be taken by the Federal Government.
¶ Rationale for Pricing
For any verification via the MWS NIMC MobileID to take place, there is a cost. This is priced in Verification Credits, with 1 Credit being the minimum. This means for each time a person’s Barcode is scanned (Improved NIN Slip, BasicID or FullID in the app or Virtual NIN), a minimum of 1 credit unit is deducted.
This is irrespective of whether the transaction was successful or not. In other words, if the record returned that the record was not found, it means that the Digital Token had been tampered with, and constitutes a transaction query in its own right.
To get ID holders used to the new concept, the Federal Government, in its wisdom, elected to provide 30 free Verification Credits to each UserID on first onboarding within the MobileID.
Please note that if one had say used 12 out of the free units, uninstalled the app or installed on a new device, the Digital Profile of that individual will still show that 12 units had been exhausted.
Once the free verification credits have been exhausted (they DO NOT expire), then a person may wish to purchase more.
